LUNGAROTTI STOMENNANO CHIANTI CLASSICO 2022 (750ml)

The Borgo di Stomennano, in addition to being an elegant resort, can be considered the Chianti “dependence” of Lungarotti, a historic Umbrian wine brand. Here, wine is also produced (Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva). Located not far from the walls of Monteriggioni, in the northernmost extension of the Castelnuovo Berardenga subzone, near the border with the Municipality of Siena, the estate covers 25 hectares of vineyards. Owned by the Sienese Matteo Lupi Grassi (husband of Chiara Lungarotti), the estate focuses on local grape varieties, mainly Sangiovese and Colorino, which are aged in both barriques and large wooden barrels. The style of the wines is well-defined, prioritizing drinkability and balance while capturing harmony with the original territory. This approach places the winery among those contributing to revitalizing the Gallo Nero denomination. The first bottles appeared on the market in 2015, and they have already proven to be reliable. As exemplified by the Chianti Classico 2018, the subject of our tasting. A good Chianti Classico with a nose dominated by red fruit, accompanied by spicy hints and some smoky tones. On the palate, the wine is sweet and soft, gaining a certain acidic energy as it develops, becoming more balanced and flavorful.
