LUNGAROTTI STOMMENANO CHIANTI CLASSICO 2020 (750ml)

Il Borgo di Stomennano, in addition to being an elegant resort, can be considered the “Chianti annex” of Lungarotti, the historic Umbrian wine brand. Indeed, they produce wine here as well (Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva). Located near Monteriggioni, in the northernmost part of the Castelnuovo Berardenga subzone, bordering the Municipality of Siena, the estate spans 25 hectares of vineyards. Owned by Siena native Matteo Lupi Grassi (husband of Chiara Lungarotti), the estate focuses on local grape varieties, primarily Sangiovese and Colorino, aged in both barriques and large casks.

The wines exhibit a well-defined style, emphasizing drinkability and balance, and reflect a strong connection to the local terroir. This well-chosen approach places this producer among those revitalizing the Chianti Classico denomination. The first bottles appeared on shelves in 2015 and have already shown good reliability, as evidenced by the Chianti Classico 2018, which we tasted. This Chianti Classico features a nose dominated by red fruit, with hints of spices and a touch of smokiness. On the palate, it offers a sweet, smooth entry, which evolves with a certain acidic energy, becoming more balanced and flavorful.
