ALOIS LAGEDER LOWENGANG CABERNET 2013 (750ml)

In the glass a deep cherry red color. On the nose delicate aromas of black currants, ripe cherries, white pepper and well integrated wood. On the palate full-bodied with good concentration and structure. Good freshness with nice acidity and already soft tannins. Great and long finish. Will be even better within 3-5 years.

The plot with Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot vines at the heart of the vineyard was planted at the turn of the 20th century. That makes it one of the oldest sites in Alto Adige still preserved. In order to maintain this treasure with its old and unique DNA, young vines were obtained through selection massale witch which the vineyard extended.

The name of the Löwengang wine estate derives from the historical residence of the same name in Magrè, which has been in the possession of the Lageder family since 1934. The estate includes vineyards on the talus cone in the village at the foot of steep rock faces composed of dolomite that formed millions of years ago. Chardonnay, Carmenère and Cabernet grapes were grown in Magrè 150 years ago already. That is what persuaded Alois III to purchase the estate, at a time when wine-growing in the region was dominated by Schiava and Lagrein Kretzer.
